Mother slit throats of her 3 children, told their father ‘say goodbye to your kids’: cops
MANDAN, N.D. (WKRC) – A mother allegedly murdered two of her young children by slitting their throats and attempted to kill another after telling their father, “Say goodbye to your kids.”
According to an affidavit obtained by Valley News Live, officers responded to a residence on the afternoon of August 6 regarding a report of a mother who had stabbed her children. First responders arrived to find the mother, 22-year-old Kailey Erhart, holding a knife to her own throat in the home, per the affidavit.
Erhart, who was covered in blood, reportedly dropped the knife and told officers to kill her. After detaining the woman, officers found three young children who were lying unresponsive on the floor in a nearby bedroom. The children were all suffering from wounds to their necks, authorities said. A 5-month-old and a 3-year-old succumbed to their injuries and died, but a 1-year-old survived the ordeal following extensive surgery.
Investigators learned that prior to the murder, Erhart chased the father of the children and grandmother from the home with a knife, the affidavit said. The father told authorities that he managed to take a gun from Erhart, disassemble it, and dispose of the pieces before she locked him out of the house. The man reportedly showed police a video he took on his phone of Erhart carrying one of the children with the pistol on her hip.
“Say goodbye to your kids,” Erhart allegedly said in the video.
